Prof. Dr. Erol YALNIZ

I was born in Kırıkkale. After graduating from Ankara Gazi Primary School and Cumhuriyet High School, I entered Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1974. I became a medical doctor in 1980. Following approximately 19 months of service as a general practitioner at a primary healthcare center and completing my long-term military service, I began my residency training in 1983 at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. During the last year of my residency, I went to the UK and conducted clinical observations in traumatology at the Birmingham Accident Hospital. In 1988, I became a specialist after submitting my thesis on ‘Giant Cell Bone Tumor’. Subsequently, I completed my compulsory service at Ünye State Hospital, where I also served as the Chief Physician. After completing my compulsory service, I was appointed to Balta Limanı Bone Diseases Hospital and worked there as an orthopedic specialist until 1992. During this period, I conducted studies at various centers in the USA and Europe to enhance my knowledge and experience in joint replacement surgery. In 1992, I began my academic career as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Trakya University. I began to focus more seriously on spine surgery and musculoskeletal tumors, and founded the Spine Surgery Division of the department. During this period, I visited the Minnesota Spine Center in the USA, where I had the opportunity to work with the world’s most renowned spine surgeons. I became an Associate Professor in 1995 and a Professor in 2000. I established extensive surgical series in the fields of spine surgery and orthopedic oncology. I shared my accumulated experience with my colleagues in national and international congresses and courses.

I served as the Vice President for one term and the President for another term at the Turkish Spine Society, of which I have been a proud member since its foundation. Additionally, I am a member of the Spine Society of Europe, the Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT), the Asian Academy of Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery, and the Turkish Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (TOTBİD).

Since 2011, I have been continuing my professional career at Edirne Ekol Hospital, where I have also been serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the past two years.
